Event Description

Arts and Crafts is where people can come and make several Asian crafts at booths and take them home. Food and drinks are provided.

In 2011, the booths included:

   * Origami: Stephanie Y. and Emily Y.
   * Hongbao Lanterns: Alex
   * Paper Arts: Qian and Catherine
   * Brush Painting: self-run
   * Beading: Angela C.
   * Chinese Yo Yo: Wei

Shopping List

Paper: We bought 4 packs of origami paper and 2 packs of the strip paper used to make stars.
Hongbao: We bought 6 packs with ~40 hongbao each.
Beads: There is only one bead store that's accessible with public transportation near MIT...and it's the Bead Company at Harvard Square across the street from the AMC theater. We had about $40 left over and just bought the cheapest beads there (which weren't very cheap). So if this is going to be an option again the beads should be bought at a Michael's.
Food and drinks: Spent about $30. Bought 2 bags of the milk tea bags and a bunch of wafers, lychee jelly (big hit), crackers, and mochi (also a big hit but expensive). We had almost a bag of milk tea bags leftover, so we probably want to get other drinks next time, like Aloe.
Misc: We had to buy tape from LaVerdes--there's some left but a better option would be to use staples for the hongbao lanterns.

Attendance

About 30 people came the event--mostly ATS members.

Notes

-We didn't manage to get someone to teach brush painting but there are handouts and people just started drawing random stuff and had fun.
-We made templates for the paper cutting--make several copies so people can just cut them out. We mainly used tissue paper and white printer paper for the cutouts, but we could invest in construction paper as well for next year because tissue paper is hard to cut and white paper is plain.
-The Chinese yo-yo booth wasn't as popular this year

Stores

Here are some images of the stores we went to.
-The Asian Arts and Crafts store on Essex Street where we purchased origami paper. [ [1] ]
-The store in Chinatown that sold cheap Hongbao. Not sure what the street name was... [ [2] ]
