Description
Introduce the Class of 2017 to ATS with some delicious shaved ice!
Materials
Budget: $80
Spent: CMart (~$43)
Food
- Took Inventory beforehand as to not overbuy
-
Bought 3 cans condensed milk, 1 can already in inventory. (Used 3)
- Accidentally bought evaporated milk instead of condensed milk first...
- Bought 7 cans of lychee (Used all)
- Bought 3 cans of fruit cocktail, 2 GIANT cans (Costco size) already in inventory (Used 3 small cans + 1 giant can)
- Bought 3 cans red bean paste (most used)
- Bought 5 cans of coconut jelly, maybe 2-3 already in inventory (Used all)
- Inventory had various cans of different aiyu jellies and a lot of grass jelly.
Other Stuff
- 250-300 bowls
- spoons
- 1 shaved ice machine - but get as many as possible
- extension cords, tape, paper towels, scissors
- google doc volunteer sign-up, banner, shaved ice sign
Notes
Logistics
- Poured condensed milk into squeeze bottle
- Cut jellies in pink bowl with plastic knives
- Large metal bowl for draining juice from cans
- Used scissors to cut lychees
- Everyone serving wore gloves
- Passed out ATS pins/buttons. People who joined the mailing list got the secret shaved ice button!
Other Notes
- Bowls with toppings got scattered everywhere. Definitely tape them down.
- Bring two trashbags for recycling and trash - cans pile up!
- Don't forget a can opener
-
Line coolers of ice with trashbags - the cooler insides are a little gross.
- Get ice from McCormick Penthouse machines
-
In the future it would be better to open cans, drain, and cut everything before heading over to Midway
- Use ziploc bags, etc to move everything over
Volunteer Signups!
Sent out doodle poll for shopping, prep, midway, and clean-up. Ended up bumming a ride on the Next REX van to C-Mart to buy toppings instead of taking the T. :D
At the midway: it's good to have 1 person opening cans, cutting jellies, and refilling topping bowls. 2-3 people serving shaved ice. 2-3 people in front of the table bringing in and talking to freshmen.
Make sure people who sign up on the doodle are committed. I was manning the entire table by myself at the beginning. (Thank you Antonio for taking pity and helping).
